Is it about hydro, Québec or both ?

It seems to me that concerning this whole hydro-Québec and New-Brunswick deal and the virulent reactions it caused, is more about fear of Quebec using its muscles and influence rather than actual economics. Would people outside of New-Brunswick have reacted as strongly if this deal had been done with another province, oh say Newfoundland for example ? On a related note, the argument federalists in Quebec have used for years was that Canada was a wonderful place to expand Quebec's influence and that Canada was a welcoming federation. But when Quebec actually DOES get involved, it gets accused of being selfish or 'un-canadian', and if it DOESN'T get involved, then it gets accused of indifference and of being a spoiled child of the federation. My my, what should an undecided nationalist Quebecer think about this ? Can you say qui gagne, perd?

PS: I find it is somewhat amusing that anything written about Quebec, whether on the main news websites or blogs, attracts many opinions even if most of them are unrelated to the story at hand.

If Quebec wants to spread its influence then do so but myself I don't appreciate it here in Ontario. Maybe Quebec can look at Haiti for example and take it under it's wing? (real conservative)

It' ridiculous how the whole Hydro Quebec contract with New Brunswick was reconfigurated because of poll results. Danny Williams influence didn't help either.

Whatever, Hydro Quebec still has control, another transmission line to the States and Charest can continue to brag about his green policies. Plus Quebec has some fallback if ever the water level in its reservoirs up north gets low as it did a few years ago.

All this nonesense because Quebeckers don't want to build anything that generates energy that is not squeaky clean anymore, so they just go next door and buy into New Brunswick's generating capacity.

If I was a New Brunswicker, I'd be screaming blue flipping murder over this. When I first read about this, I remember wondering who was getting bought off. That’s Quebec’s reputation, isn’t it.

The difference between Newfoundland and Quebec is NB could trust Newfoundland to be at least reasonably fair.

Where's Quebec cannot be trusted, they would screw over and crush NB if it suited them and without the least bit of concern. And probably with a evil smirk on their face.

As a Albertan who’s crossed paths with many french Canadians from Quebec who now reside here, I’ll be honest with you and say that I have a positive opinion of them. But the dirt bag, hate monger politicians back in Quebec are another story.

One last thing. If a corporation that was totally owned by the Government of Alberta made a play for something equally as important in Quebec, what do you think the reaction would be?

That’s an easy one to know, isn’t it!

Enough Said.
